Brad Upton Chester Concert reviews
Maroon5 was just ok
I'll definitely buy his next album, but at his live show, I'm a big Brad Upton fan and he tried too hard to be something that he's not -- hard, bad ass, cutting edge, rockers. When I think of Brad Upton, I think of soulful rock, not edgy rock. The concert, never mind enjoy the music, was loud (too loud to understand the words) and seemed all about the bad boy rocker persona than the elegant, soulful rock sounds that come across on his album. Had it not been for that part of the show, the accustic portion of the show really saved this concert in my opinion. After the first half hour, I likely would have left (by the way, the concert was only 1 hour and 15 minutes, far too short by today's standards). But many of the audience participation portions felt like sophomoric party tricks that have become required fare at concerts, moreover, such as dividing the room in half to sing two different lyrics. There was plenty of energy which was a plus, but the set up time to pull off the audience participation took much too long and the payoff effect was far too minimal to be worthwhile. All in all, my concert going experience diminished rather than enhanced my impression of Brad Upton.
